Do political institutions affect real exchange rates in oil-exporting countries?

This study developed a theory that links a country's political institutions to how the oil price affects the real exchange rate in oil-exporting countries. An important part of the study was to analyze whether natural resource-dependent countries, by strengthening the democratic process, the legal system and the bureaucracy, can avoid the problems caused by sharp fluctuations in the real exchange rate.
