Research interests: International trade, energy/climate economics and agricultural economics.

Among the questions that Shon Ferguson tries to answer with his research:

  • How do firms respond to tougher competition due to trade liberalization?
  • How do firms respond to higher energy prices?
  • Why are high-tech firms so export-dependent?
  • Do small- and medium-sized firms benefit from state-subsidized export promotion?
  • Under what conditions does ownership of input providers help firms to produce more effectively?

Shon Ferguson was born in Canada and has lived in Sweden since 2005. He received his Ph.D. in Economics in 2010 from The Stockholm University with a dissertation titled Essays on Trade, Technology and the Organization of Firms.

Research on entrepreneurship




The Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research is the foremost global award for research on entrepreneurship.This Prize is awarded annually with a prize sum of EUR 100,000.

IFN in cooperation with Entreprenörskapsforum and Vinnova are the principals of the award.

Professor Sidney Winter, Professor at University of Pennsylvania, was the winner of the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research 2015. He received the award at a ceremony on May 20, 2015, in Stockholm.
