Consumers today face an extensive and easily accessible array of products and services. At the same time, firms are increasingly pursuing economies of scope by broadening their offerings rather than specializing. This chapter provides an overview of the main theories, drivers and research on this phenomenon. It shows that economies of scope are essential for understanding competition, efficiency and customer value in modern economies, as well as the forces shaping future markets.
