Extreme weather events and their impact on competitiveness and innovation

Europe has experienced severe weather events in recent years that have disrupted food production and caused large economic and environmental damage. Recent economic disturbances following geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions have further demonstrated how vulnerable our globalized food systems are to disturbances, beyond those related to extreme weather. In this research project, we examine environmental and economic perspectives in an integrated manner. We examine how primary producers and other rural entrepreneurs are financially affected by parallel economic and climate-related shocks and which production methods and technological advances have the potential to build resilience and improve profitability and productivity in the short, medium, and long term.
