Karin Edmark

Karin Edmark received her doctorate in economics at Uppsala University in 2007, with a thesis on municipal decisions on taxes and spending. Between 2010 and 2015, she was employed as a researcher at the IFN. She has also been employed at the Institute for Labour Market and Education Policy Evaluation (IFAU). She has been a guest researcher at the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) and the University of California at San Diego. Karin was affiliated with IFN during 2016–2025 and at the same time active at the Swedish Institute for Social Research at Stockholm University. Karin was a member of the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council.

Karin Edmark´s research at IFN was primarily empirically oriented, focusing on the economics of education and public economics. In the area of public economics, Karin Edmark has studied the factors that affect municipality decision-making, for example, whether municipalities take strategic considerations into account when deciding on taxes and expenditures. Karin Edmark’s later research projects studied the effects on choice and competition within the educational sector, taxes, and entrepreneurship.
