Some questions Anders Kärnä tries to answer in his research:
- What are the effects of various forms of government measures to strengthen business, such as selective aid and loans? Understanding when and how different measures work or do not work is important both from the taxpayer's perspective and partly for the impact of the measures. Since measures are rarely introduced as controlled experiments, it requires specific methods to evaluate the causal effect.
- How can the efficiency of industrial and innovation policy be evaluated?
- How do politicians motivate policy programs whose purpose is not always to increase social welfare?
- How do family businesses differ from ordinary businesses?
