Economic Research on European Integration

Mölle Conference 2012.

For the 15th year in a row, an international scientific conference on European integration is organized in Mölle, Skåne. Professor Lars Oxelheim, IFN and Lund University, Chairman of the Swedish Network for European Studies in Economics and Business (SNEE), is in charge of the event. Included on this year's list of 150 guests are Richard Sweeney, Georgetown University and Rym Ayadi, researcher at the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels. Several journalists will also attend, including Adrian Wooldridge from The Economist. Among the speakers during the four-day conference can be found approximately ten researchers from IFN.

“The conference is notable as it provides researchers in economics with a forum for various European topics. Participants represent all fields in economics, including business, economic geography and economic psychology,” explains Lars Oxelheim.

He argues that the Mölle conference creates critical mass for the exchange of ideas within the European economic research community. Only Swedish researchers or foreign researchers with ties to Sweden are invited to present their research. Some 50 have passed the needle's eye of the organizers and will present papers at this year's conference.

“Swedish researchers receive feedback on their research by international scholars invited to discuss their results. They may also advance their research ideas in a series of panel discussions with Swedish and foreign politicians and decision-makers from business and society.”

The programme

Swedish Government and Parliament decided in 1997 the establishment of three networks:economics, the field of law and political science. The mission to initiate the Swedish Network for European Studies in Economics went to Lars Oxelheim. He has since headed the organization. A task that among other things has resulted in 15 conferences in Mölle and 16 multidisciplinary books in the series: European perspective.
