The Diffusion of New Industrial Processes: An International Study

This book is the joint work of a number of research institutes in several countries.

The initiative for the, inquiry came early in 1967 when the National Institute of Economic a11d Social Research, London, invited a number of other economic research institutes in Europe to participate in a joint study. The invitation was accepted by the IFO-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung, Munich, the Istituto Nazionale per lo Studio della Congiuntura, Rome, the Industriens Utredningsinstitut, Stockholm, the Österreichisches Institut ftir Wirtschaftsforschung, Vienna, and the Bureau d'Information et de Previsions Economiques, Paris. The French institute, after taking an active part in the first stage of the inquiry, was unable to continue in the second. On the other hand, the National Bureau of Economic Research, New York, joined the group for the second stage in 1969. From the inception of the project to completion of the manuscript of the present volume took six years altogether, of which two were taken by the first stage and four by the second ; for most of this time work was going on in six or seven countries.

Interdisciplinary European Studies

The European Union and the Return of the Nation State

This book explores the complex and ever-changing relationship between the European Union and its member states. The recent surge in tension in this relationship has been prompted by the actions of some member state governments as they question fundamental EU values and principles and refuse to implement common decisions seemingly on the basis of narrowly defined national interests.
