Chinese visit to IFN

On Monday, IFN organized a seminar for a delegation from All-China Women's Federation. The federation is the leading organization for women's rights in China. Joacim Tåg presented his paper ”What Prevents Women from Reaching the Top?”

Women are less likely to be appointed CEO and to get top executive positions than men. A significant factor in the shortage of women in executive positions is a slow career progression in the five years after the birth of a woman’s first child. The paper shows that Women who eventually reach executive positions appear to be better qualified than their male peers. Joacim Tåg, IFN, Matti Keloharju, Aalto University, CEPR, and affiliated to IFN and Samuli Knüpfer, Norwegian Business School, and affiliated to IFN are the authors of this paper.

Joacim Tåg is Program Director for Globalization and Corporate Restructuring. His research leverages Swedish administrative data to answer policy-relevant questions in labor, finance, and entrepreneurship. A central theme is the allocation of executives and workers across firms and/or into entrepreneurship.

The delegation from All-China Women's Federation, visited IFN to learn more about the Swedish experiences of factors preventing women from reaching the top. They aim to continue their work in China, facilitating for Chinese women to become top executives.
