Economic Growth and Local Institutions: What Can Politics Do?

How can policy improve the institutional setting for rural entrepreneurship such that all individuals benefit from development? The project's focus is on formal and informal local institutions. Institutions are the norms and rules that govern how we act and interact with each other in society. Local institutions that encourage entrepreneurship and development are a "collective good" that increases the welfare of all individuals. This project investigates the origin of good local institutions and how these institutions are developed and improved, not least through policy.
