Policy Evaluation for Regional Sustainable Development

Access to commercial services in rural and urban areas is crucial to achieving sustainable development in all regions of Sweden. Examples of frequently debated policy tools are a recently implemented subsidy to firms in rural areas and regional planning of new firms' entry. From 2022 is this project connected to the research program Firm Competitiveness.

The purpose of this project was to evaluate and quantify the effects of such public policies on consumers, firms, and society as a whole. The researchers used novel data on all Swedish service firms. The research is of practical importance for policymakers, public authorities, politicians, interest groups, firms, and consumers.

The project was financed by the Swedish research council Formas.
