Conference on Globalization of the Production of Services Implications for Small Open Economies

On November 20, 2006, the Research Institute of Industrial Economics arranged a conference on globalization of the service production and the conditions for small open economies, such as the Swedish economy.

The conference, which assembled leading international researchers as well as Swedish policy debaters, focused on issues as: How does information technology influence the globalization of services and what are the effects for growth and prosperity? Which role is played by national policies and bilateral and multilateral agreements?

The Minister of Foreign Trade, Mr Sten Tolgfors, opened the conference by describing the Swedish position in matters regarding the internationalization of services, the EU, WTO and the Doha Round.


Catherine L Mann described how investments in IT and the globalization together create increased cost efficiency and specialization in the production of goods and services.

 

Mattias Ganslandt, the Research Institute of Industrial Economics, and Anders Rune, the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries, opened the conference and introduced the program and the speakers.
