Globalisation and Political Trust: Evidence of a Nuanced Relationship

This paper combines individual-level data from the European Social Survey with indicators of economic, political, and social globalisation. We exploit variation in exposure to globalisation during individuals’ formative years. We find no evidence that globalisation systematically erodes political trust. The relationship appears to be depend on historical experience.
